Thermowood and its painting
Timber is a typical example of how a person has safely started experiments with the optimization of microstructure of a material. The main manifestation can be observed with the so called modified timber, and was started in the middle of the last century (pressed wood, lignamon etc.). The newly acquired material exceeds the strength of ordinary wood several times and is used as a substitute for non-ferrous metal in machinery.
Today we are leaning about thermowood that is gained in specialized vacuum drying ovens with special modes. Thermowood has not only high physical-mechanical properties, it is also decorative and durable, it does not affect the wood trupes and the combustion processes are less dangerous.
The thermowood producing process is based on timber processing in high temperature (170-220° C), while in the steam environment. Heat treatment changes the structure of wood cells, removing its moisture, bacteria and acids. In this way, "heated" wood is a very bad soil for all types of mushrooms, mildew and rot, so it is more resistant to the environmental impact.
The features of the thermal treated wood are:
Thermowood can be used both internally and externally. Thanks to its features, the material is well suited for terraces, house cladding, siding, and outdoor furniture. It can be used for floors and in bathrooms and wet rooms with high moisture level.
Thermowood absorbs moisture poorly, but it can be easily impregnated with eco-colours and stains of linseed oil, because the linseed oil has a smaller molecular size. After heat treatment, the wood stays darker and in order to visually "revitalize" it, and to make it brighter, you can use NATURA linseed oil with or without pre-bleaching of thermowood. The painting of colour NATURA will provide a long lasting and durable wood protection. Covered with linseed oil paint-stain NATURA thermowood will keep same colour for many years.

The features of the thermal treated wood are:
- Resistance against rot – thanks to the heavily reduced hemicellulose, which is a feed for the rot, the tree gets better resistance to it, and its life expectancy is five times higher than the untreated tree;
- Stability – with lower equilibrium moisture, the radial and tangential swelling of the wood also reduces, allowing longer and larger materials to be used;
- Colour change – wood obtains colour all over, and colour change depends on processing length and temperature and wood breed, however, colour can vary from light brown till chestnut or even honey colour. 20-25% less thermal conductivity than untreated wood, therefore, it's great for baths / saunas and rooms where the heat management needs to be low, or in buildings that have a bigger difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures and moisture levels;
- Resin – they evaporate as a result of the thermal process, and such material is more user-friendly and has a role in surface treatment.
- Durability - heat-treated birch and pine wood according to their durability is comparable to oak.
